An intriguing Chinese porcelain vase of baluster form with foliate rim with Foo dog figures to the neck and Chilong, bifurcated dragons, to the shoulder decorated in iron red and black enamels with the 100 poets pattern. The design appears on Japanese porcelain and this may either be a Chinese porcelain vase decorated for the Japanese market, or a Chinese porcelain blank decorated in Japan in Japanese taste.
The vase measures 36.2cm, 14.25 inches, high and is 18.9cm, or 7.44 inches, in width. There is a chip to the underside of the top rim, one small chip to one of the chilongs feet and a tiny chip to one of the Foo Dogs. No hairlines or restoration.
