Rare Ko Imari “Black Ship” Bowl c.1820

An unusual notched form straight sided heavy water bowl; such a bowl would have been used to clean and wet brushes used in the application of cosmetics. The exterior of the bowl features waves and the interior a “Black Ship”, a somewhat fanciful conflation of a European ship with a Junk, with three European style figures handling ropes. The bowl measures 14.5cms in diameter and stands 6cm high and is in good condition with no cracks, chips or other damage or restoration. Dating Bunsei era of the Late Edo Period. For a similar bowl with identical subject matter to the interior see Shibatta Volume VIII no 521. Shipping at Cost.
