An intriguing octagonal bowl decorated with levitating sennin in various poses enjoying a meal presumably in the Isle of the Immortals. If one looks closely one of the figures is painted with the profile of an ape, which is characteristic of the somewhat playful approach of the Japanese to this type of Chinese subject. The design is painted in reverse style kakiwake. The interior of the bowl is decorated with a Kirin, Kylin, motif. The bowl dates to the late Eighteenth century circa 1780-1800. The bowl measures 10.7cm in diameter and stands 6cm and is in good condition, no cracks, chips or restoration. Shipping at Cost.
