A finely painted and potted Ko Imari dish of unusual moulded hexagonal form following a Chinese precedent made for the Japanese market in the reign of the Emperor Chongzhen. The outer register following more or less the Chinese original, whilst the cavetto includes six of the eight auspicious trigrams framing an auspicious vignette of a Deer, Pines and rocks. The reverse is decorated with an elaborate pattern of panels more typically found on Chinese “Kraak” porcelain, rather on porcelain of this form, and a stylised Fuku in seal characters within a double square. The rim has an iron brown glazed. The dish dates to the late Eighteenth century. The dish is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration and measures 21cm in diameter.
