A medium sized bowl quite heavily potted with an everted rim decorated in the full Imari palette sans aubergine enamels decorated with a series of auspicious motifs. The exterior of the bowl is painted in underglaze blue with a broken band of diaper to the rim, quatrefoil form reserves and Chinese fan shaped reserves. The base with an unusual border pattern of rather naively painted Chrysanthemum demi-florets. Each quatrefoil reserve containing a pussy-foot (clawless) Shishi with stylised clouds painted in a combination of iron red and gilt. The fierce shishi adopting a forward facing crouched pose, as if about to leap out of the bowl. Each fan shaped reserve is painted with a pine cone and symmetrically arranged gilt karakusa with small scroll form clouds. The areas in between the reserves is enamelled with further scrolling acanthus style foliage surrounding a combined choji, clove, and jewelled shippo motif, takaramono. The rim decorated with partial bands of shippo-tsunagi. The interior decorated in similar fashion to the exterior with an additional auspicious motif in the well of the bowl of an Artemesia leaf combined with a Buddhist fly whisk. The interior of the foot-ring containing the nien hao for the Chinese Emperor Jiajing within a single ring. Dating early Eighteenth century. The bowl measures approximately 19cm in diameter and stands 9.3cm high. The foot-rim is quite wide and square cut in profile. The bowl is slightly wider in one direction, and the decoration has been aligned to reflect this. No chips, cracks or restoration. Shipping at Cost.
