A very unusual export dish decorated with an aubergine enamelled dragon set against a black ground and green clouds in a circle with a central Chrysanthemum motif. The border painted in a three colour Imari palette of Peonies and Irises. The reverse is undecorated. The dish is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. This plate belongs to a rare class of export porcelain, which was produced using a spurless firing, whilst Barbers dishes using this method are not uncommon, plates are seldom encountered. The central ring was unglazed in the glost firing perhaps supporting a shallow ring upon which the next plate was stacked. The plate is probably mid 18th century in date; the late mid Edo. The dish measures 23.5cms in diameter, and the diameter of the footrim is 11cms. It stands 3.5cm high at its rim edge. Shipping within the UK included in the GB sterling price. Worldwide shipping included in the USD price.
