| Geoffrey A. Godden's ORIENTAL EXPORT MARKET PORCELAIN, c. 1979 by Geoffrey A. Godden and published by Granada Publishing, Ltd. About 8.5" x 9.5" x 1-1/8". Though dust jacket is a bit frayed, book in excellent condition. Mr. Godden is widely celebrated for his knowledge of English ceramics but handled as much Chinese porcelain as English. His research on the subject has been exceptionally wide-ranging, and the majority of his sources quoted in this volume were published here for the first time. They include extracts from the English East India Company records, ships' logs of the 'East Indiamen' who carried on the trade and the results of the many china-ware sales held in London. There is a chapter on Japanese wares, for in the eighteenth century nearly as much Japanese as Chinese porcelain was imported. There is also a section on the American trade in Oriental export porcelain. The extensive and carefully chosen illustrations combine with the authoritative -- and sometimes challenging -- text to make this an invaluable book for collectors and students of porcelain. Book Rate or Priority Mail at cost. | ||
