Guest Book

A powerful yet gentle looking Shishi lion playing with a brocade ball. The musculature, bones and toes are well defined and very natural. Judging by the blue-greyish glaze probably an Arita copy of the more widely seen Hirado Shishi as pictured on the cover of Louis Lawrence’s book ‘Hirado Prince of Porcelain’. Most likely the figurine dates to the late Meiji or Taisho period. The Shishi is quite large at 19cm high and 20cm wide and in good condition except for some original glaze crazing. No cracks, chips or repairs. Worldwide shipping at cost from the Netherlands.
