Exceptional vintage Arts and Crafts Ruskin pottery brooch. Made circa 1910, this large brooch has a desirable robin’s egg blue and white pottery cabachon (which is much richer then the picture shows.) Marked "RUSKIN" on the reverse, it is bezel set and also surrounded by a open second V filigree outer bezel.
The brooch measures about 1 3/4 x 1 1/16 inches in total. The Ruskin about 1 1/4 x 3/4 inches.Old barrel pin clasp works well. No marks on the silver. John Ruskin was the founder father of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Born in 1819, he became the first Art History Professor at Oxford in 1890. Ruskin's philosophy was a belief that by surrounding oneself with honest and simple objects and works of art, one's life became enriched.
