Be Sure to See Our Impressive Collection of Taxco, Danish, Arts and Crafts and Other Vintage Silver Jewelry!
Rare, large Bernhard Hertz drop brooch with carnelian stones. Classic Art Nouveau / Skonvirke design made circa 1910, Denmark. This large and outstanding brooch has organic leaf designs and ball chain set with a central domed Carnelian stone and teardrops. Sensational early Danish silver! It is stamped 828S for silver content of the period (less than sterling) and bears the BH stamp for Bernhard Hertz. The brooch has its original pin and C clasp and is wonderful. It measures 2 3/8 inches wide x 3 3/8 high including the drop. Hertz was a contemporary of Georg Jensen and Evald Niesen at the turn of the century. Very hard to find exceptional pieces such as this. Stunning! We have significantly reduced the price as we noticed what looks like a larger than normal solder to the reverse where the silver ball chain attaches (pic 2 lower left). There is some light roughness to the front in this same location (pic 1 lower right). We don't know if it is a repair or just the original solder that did not get finished well. There appears to be other, much smaller normal solder flows near the other balls in each corner, so you be the judge. In any case, it is a stunning brooch and a steal at this price! |
