Large organic Bernhard Hertz Master Brooch with carnelian. This exsquisite brooch was made circa 1910, Denmark. It has intertwined organic leaf designs surrounding two translucent carnelian cabachons. Very Art Nouveau or Arts & Crafts, and similar in style to early Georg Jensen and Evald Neilsen pieces of the period.
It is stamped 82(last 8 is missing) S and bears the BH stamp for Bernhard Hertz. It measures 1 3/4 inches wide x 2 7/8 high including the drop.
NOTE: The brooch has an original old style pin and clasp. However it has been reworked to raise the pin higher, presumably to be worn on thick fabric such as a sweater or blazer. At the buyers choice, we can have the pin redone by a gold/silversmith to be straight again as in the last photo, or we can educe the price to have your own silversmith do so - if you wish.
Hertz was a contemporary of Georg Jensen at the turn of the century. It is very hard to find exceptional pieces such as this.
