Edo Period, 18th Century, excellently hand-carved Boxwood Netsuke depicting a tall Dutchman with a long pointed beard, wearing a brimmed hat and a long-sleeved Chinese robe, who is holding a wide-mouthed wind instrument with both hands. Spectacular rendition of a foreigner with excellent detail and facial expression, beautifully preserved with a rich patina. Wonderfull extra-large himotoshi. Unsigned. Netsuke has a repair in the front of his hat that appears only as a hairline, and that is barely visible to the naked eye, otherwise, it is in excellent condition, as may be seen in the posted photos. It measures 0.75 inches wide, and three inches tall.
