19th Century, finely hand-carved Boxwood Netsuke depicting Daikoku and Ebisu, two of the Lucky Gods of Fortune sitting on top of a Bag of Fortune. Daikoku, the lucky God of Wealth, is holding his lucky mallet with his left hand. Ebisu, right next to him, wearing his characteristic Eboshi, or court hat, is holding a fan with his right hand. Both gods are smiling. Very joyful expressions and detailed form are observed on this excellent carving. It sports a well placed and functional himotoshi. It shows a rich patina, and it is in wonderfully preserved condition. Unsigned It measures 1.57 inches (4.0cm) wide, 1.86 inches (4.7cm) tall.
