18th Century, Japanese Ebony Netsuke: Dog Holding a Ball
18th Century, nicely hand-carved Ebony Netsuke depicting Dog sitting on his hind legs and holding a large ball with its front paws. Very nice stylized touches characterizes this netsuke made during the EDO Period of Japan. Unsigned. Large chimney himotoshi on this piece, characteristic of carvings made during the 18th century, and beginning of the 19th century. This netsuke has the same features as another dog netsuke that we are offering for sale, photo #11. Netsuke measures 0.75 inches (2cm) wide, 1.40 inches (3.6cm) long, and 1.70 inches (4.3cm) tall. It is in excellent condition with no hairlines, no chips, and no repairs, as may be seen in the posted photos.
