This is a 19th century, excellently hand-carved Kyoto School styled netsuke of a seated dog, in a protective posture, with its young puppy right in front of it. Delightful expression on their faces. Outstanding detail, Excellent form, wonderful hair work. Double inlaid eyes. Very nice two-tone patina. The spaces between the right and hind leg of the dog serve as natural himotoshi. Netsuke measures 0.70 inches (1.8cm) wide, 1.34 inches (3.4cm) long, and 1.72 inches (4.4cm) tall. Signed. It is in excellent condition, as shown in the posted photos.
