This is a very large boxwood Okimono/Netsuke excellently carved in the form of a seated and screaming Daruma, dressed in red robes, with his arms extended and hands clasped together in front of him. Very real and painful expression in Darumas's face. Double inlaid eyes in ivory and dark horn. Well-formed teeth also inlaid in ivory.
This is the largest sample of this subject that we have ever seen. It measures 2.12 inches (5.4cm) wide, 3.6 inches (9.2cm) long, and 2.1 inches (5.4cm) tall.
Toes on right foot appear to have been repaired/restored, but, well done. Otherwise, this miniature sculpture is in excellent condition, as shown in the posted photos.
