19th Century, nicely hand-carved Cherry Wood netsuke depicting Two men in typical garb and hair style playing the popular game Go over an elongated oval platform. The playing table is inlaid with black and white chips. The robe of one of the players also has white inlays. The head of one of the men moves ack and forth Netsuke has a chimney himotoshi that starts on the bottom of the platform with an inlaid cord hole and continues through the sides of the table. The reddish brown wood has darkened and acquire a rich luster with age. Signed Fukushu on the bottom of the oval platform, with a script that reads "Go meeting, one, six, three, eight". Netsuke measures 0.66 inches (1.7cm) wide, 2.12 inches (5.4cm) long, and 1.43 inches (3.6cm) tall. It is in excellent condition, as you may be able to see in the posted photos.
