Condition: very good. Fine 19th century frame.

Shown at the galerie Druet 1925 Paris exhibition: Simon Bussy, Oiseaux et Animaux.

Simon Bussy excelled in portraits: members of the Bloombury group, but also exotic species he would study for hours at the London zoo. He was born in France and studied in the workshop of Gustave Moreau, where he met his life-long friend Matisse. He moves to London when he meets and marries Dorothy Strachey, a writer close to the Bloomsbury circle. Bussy's works are exhibited, among other museums, at The National Portrait Gallery (London), Tate Gallery (London), Musée National d'Art Moderne (Paris), Musée d'Orsay (Paris)…
