A very lovely Russian silver napkin ring from 1930. This is relatively early in the Soviet era although the Stalin pograms had already began. This one was beautifully made in the old silversmith tradition with high quality and heavy gauge 84 silver on a mat finish. The botanical theme hand chasing runs graceful and free so similar to American art nouveau silver decorations of 30 years earlier.
Various marks as shown including the Russian Moscow silver standard of 84 (84% pure silver). The monogram has a "K" and I can't decipher the other letter and it can be interpreted variously. Inscription on the back shows this was a 10th anniversary gift.
Very good condition. Some wear on the gold wash. Polishes beautifully. Rare item for the collector. We know from Russian novels how romantic they can be. Yet who would order such a thing of beauty and luxury at such a time? The most serious purges against the bourgeoisie were launched then and the Cossacks were being really stomped down for example. This would be among the last examples of old Russian silversmith work. A rare and wonderful silver item from a past heading into an uncertain future.
