Qing Brush Painting 清陈浩画
清陈浩画水仙 A fine Chinese literati painting on paper of narcissus blossoms by Qing (Ch'ing) dynasty artist Chen Hao. He is listed in the Chinese Artists Dictionary as working during the last Ch'ing (Qing) dynasty (1644-1911). Born in the Shanghai region, he excelled in painting bamboo and was an excellent calligrapher. This painting has a poem written in his hand together with full signature and 2 seals of the artist.

The picture has flowing lines without hesitation and he uses the Song impressionistic dot technique on the ground very effectively. The calligraphy is outstanding.

I am told this painting is from a southern estate where an earlier generation acquired it in 1911. Mounted as a scroll with simple wooden rollers. I guarantee this is a 19th century painting or earlier.

Picture area 63"" long x 17.5"" wide. Condition of the scroll is definitely not pristine having creases throughout. The paper is also toned from time and has some brownish stains. However there are NO long tears and NO big splotches of stains. The painting & inscription are intact. Paintings in this condition are restorable.

A fine & genuine mid Ch'ing (Qing) painting in the classical tradition with excellent calligraphy. How many do you find today?
