Two beautifully hand painted grasshoppers perch on slender golden stalks decorating this elegant mallet base vase. The grasshoppers have golden heads and light green bodies all done in thick enamel. The green changes ever so subtly into gold. The bottom has a fully polished pontil typical of Mt. Washington & Pairpoint. Sprinkled gold along the rim. This is Mt. Washington or Pairpoint Verona. They did these beautiful art nouveau botanical themes with unbelievable detail. While flowers are usually found on them, butterflies are rare and this is the first grasshopper I've seen.
Fine condition with no flakes or chips. Glass walls are nice and clear.
This is a rare one from the American Art Nouveau period about 100 years ago!
