19th century antique famille rose wine cup with cute horses. Mark of Tongzhi. Maybe not imperial kiln, but a very nice little cup of the Tongzhi period. Very nice example of the use of abstract exaggeration in Chinese art
. The Chinese wine cups and scholar objects are small but sometimes exquisitely decorated. In this case the abstract design facilitated a single brushstroke for each thick enamel color patch on the horses. The result is this bold and very engaging scene on a little cup.
About 2" high x 2.5" wide. Biscuit a little grey, typical of the period. No chips or cracks and very good condition.
