~~~For ADDITIONAL PHOTOS please visit WWW.GLASSCACHE.com and browse our full catalog or search by the four digit stock number~~~ This is a very unique bowl or ashtray. It resembles the Merletto of Archimede Seguso and is, in fact, often attributed to him. More likely, though, is that it was designed by Milan Metelak in Czechoslovakia; a technique he developed in the early 1950s called Harrtil. There are two examples of this glass in Leslie Pina's "Fifties Glass" which are attributed to Seguso (but mention Harrtil as a "possibility"). Since it is not marked and is free of labels you'll have to decide. It's a very sturdy piece with three deep cigarette rests. It has one, wedge-shaped flake to the base about 2cm at its widest point. It is confined to the base and is not easily seen while on display. Dimensions: 5" (13cm) wide, 3.5" (9cm) tall. |
