This massive, 18” tall male figurine (BB14) rests a large ball against his right shoulder while holding it in his cupped right hand. Intently staring ahead in preparation to throw the ball, he is decorated with elaborate ear ornaments, a nose ring, and a band around his neck representing a necklace. Standing naked, his powerful body striped with what probably represents tattooing, and with plaited hair, the figure is attributed to the Nayarit horizon of west Mexico dating c.300BC-300AD...

This second ancient lion's head doorknocker (MAB 2) appears to be a companion piece to MAB 1. Both were probably mounted on the same Roman door in Syria around the 1st Century A.D. Undoubtedly designed to signify the power and importance of the home's owner, it is a beautifully molded and complete bronze assemblage but unlike the ring on MAB 1, the ring on MAB 2 no longer moves. Measuring 7 1/4" across, this doorknocker weighs 3 1/2 pounds, a little more than MAB 1...

The zoomorphic handle (a dog head?) on this interesting prehistoric Indian pitcher (GL582) is original and intact. From the collection of the late Gene Lang of Denver, Colorado, he typed the piece as a Wingate Polychrome dating c.1125-1200AD from the Anasazi cultural group. Measuring 6 ½” in width, a rim ‘kill’ and some surface abrasion was restored by Lang. There is some light stress cracking on the bottom of the jar...

Intact with only minor dings mainly to the feet, confirmed by an x-ray, this 8 ½” tall, hollow, seated female figurine (BB17) is attributed to the Jalisco horizon of west Mexico dating c.300BC-300AD. From the Billy Branch collection of Denver, the lady, wearing skirt, ear decorations, and head band, sits with left hand on knee and right hand resting on her extended belly (with the full breasts, I suspect she’s portraying a pregnant young woman and just felt a healthy kick)...

Doesn’t the squared dumbbell-like design framed in black in the center of this bowl (GLC506) look like a scowling face? Identified as a Tularosa Black-on-White dating c.1100-1250AD, this type is sometimes thrown into the Anasazi Group, sometimes the Mogollon. Glued together with only minimal restoration (just touched up along the cracks), the bowl measures just a little over 10 ¾” in diameter. What a sweet little lady! Measuring a mere 1 3/8” in height, this hand-modeled miniature female figurine (AXH1403R3N4) was found at the site of Cuautitlan by the late Dr. Allen Heflin. Wearing ear spools, and a headdress with a crescent-shaped object on its top, this rare miniature dates into the unattributed Preclassic Period, c.1200-900BC. This 3” tall ceramic vessel (BWO4) is in the form of a coiled snake and poised in a position to strike! In only fairly good condition with close to 50% of its original black burnished surface eroded and two small holes in its side just below the rim, the exposed and somewhat punky red clay, when handled can produce small specks of loose paint and sandy grit.
