The small stone beads or pendants in this group of twelve (LLL 1205A, D, G, J, L, P, S, W, Y, AA, AH and AO), dating c.300BC-600AD and assigned to the Colima horizon, were all collected by the late Lynn Langdon in West Mexico during the mid-20th century. In Pre-Columbian days, the little figures were strung in necklaces and worn as protective amulets. The pieces in this lot represent predominantly anthropomorphic or human forms but also include a bird, a frog and a jaguar head...

This fine burnished redware Pre-Columbian pipe (LLL1148) was found in West Mexico by the late Lynn Langdon in the mid-20th century. Measuring 6 ¾” in length, and glued together in two places, with good restoration of the cracks, the pipe is a classic example of the Tarascan style dating c.1200-1500AD...

The two large stone pieces on this page are both Aztec in origin, c.1250-1520AD. Found by the late Dr. Allen Heflin in the mid-20th century at the Aztec island city site of Xico in the Valley of Mexico, these were sold to a Colorado collector who has purchased a number of items from Heflin’s collection since we acquired it. The pieces are being offered as consigned items from that former collector, now selling off his collection...

Measuring 23” in length, this heavy carved wood staff handle (TF97.19) displays at its top a seated, long-faced, and rather gaunt-looking male with a tumpline around his brow holding a small burden on his back. Attributed to the Paramonga of Peru, c.1100-1400AD, this may have been the burden-carrier’s walking stick and the image on top, a depiction of how he probably felt at the end of a long walk carrying his burden...

This 8" long 'bracelet' with small Pre-Columbian carved shell beauties (111.4HD) is the last piece recently traded from Lorenzo Fritz. Originally assembled and sold by the Orlandini Museum of Peru back in the mid-20th century, Fritz also purchased this one from a privately owned collection here in the US decades ago. The three main images (2 monkeys and a bird) originally had inset stone, but only the curly tailed monkey image on the left side has retained a single green inlay...

This incredibly well preserved set of Pre-Columbian wood ear plugs (LFG442), on which the geometrically decorated shell and dark greenstone elements are each held in place with an almost invisible touch of contemporary glue, is attributed to the Moche horizon of Peru, c.100-800AD. Not wearable today due to the fragile nature of the wood that has dried and shrunk through the many centuries of entombment, there are certainly few other such pairs that have survived this well...

$6500.00
Sporting a nose ring, complex ear ornaments, armlets, and an open mouth that would seem to indicate a 'singing' drummer, this seated polychrome figure (CLP 33) is attributed to the Nayarit of West Mexico, Ixtlan del Rio style, dating c.100 B.C. to 300 A.D. Just TL-tested by the Ralf Kotalla Lab in Hamburg, Germany, it has been determined to be 1800 years old (+ or - 300) years. In overall good condition (I'd rank it at a grade 7 1/2 with 10 being the top) with a moderate amount of strong mangane...

This group of twelve (RDM 14, 30, 32-34, 38, 40, 50, 56, 57 and 59) represents the final listing for the Barney Mallonee collection, but it’s going out with a BANG! There are pieces from the Tiwanaku and Manteno horizons, as well as a few with unknown provenance, all very reasonably priced in a range from $75-$225, and ranging in condition that from 4 to 8 (on the 1-10 scale, with 10 being tops). Standouts in my eyes are the Tiahuanacan polychrome jar with the great but simply designed protrud...

The world-renowned Dr. Allen Heflin collection contained one of the largest assortments of Pre-Columbian ceramic pipes seen on the market in recent years. He found this one (AXH89) at the Aztec site of Cuautitlan, Mexico in July 1960 (so-marked on the bottom of the stem in black ink). An impressive 13” in length, with a 6 ½” tall bowl, the pipe was found in four pieces that were later glued together without any new material or paint being added to the pipe. This rare and spectacular piece, ...
