$900.00
Almost exactly one foot tall, this ancient Egyptian red ware, wide-mouthed jar (102.68HD) is intact and in overall good condition. It does have a small cluster of radiating stress cracks on the inner wall (they just barely reach the outer surface), one area of surface erosion probably caused by partial exposure to the elements (oval shaped and about four inches in diameter), and a fair amount of shallow surface pitting...

This spectacular 1 ½” long, hollow Pre-Columbian 10.6 karat gold tumbaga pendant (BXS.1) depicts a fiercely snarling dragon-like creature with a long-beaked bird’s head tail, lying on its chest and ready to pounce. Undoubtedly a symbol of power and strength, it is attributed to the Sinu or Tairona cultural horizon of Colombia, dated c.800-1500AD...

This page of twelve (MAB.164A & D; 165B, E, H, K & N; 166B, D, E & I; and 183) from the MAB collection offers ancient jewelry from the Persian Empire, France, Spain, Jerusalem and England, plus a rare Pre-Columbian tumbaga priest pendant (unfortunately a curio only and not wearable). Each photo in this group shows first our inventory number in brackets followed by a brief description, and then a grade estimate (1-10)...

$1,500.00
This highly burnished red ware melon jar (CLP 1) is one of my favorite items from Claudia Proto's collection of West Mexican Pre-Columbian art. 8" wide and 6 1/4" tall, it simply bubbles with fun and style in spite of the its obviously damaged condition ( in our opinion, it still deserves a quality rank of '7', with 10 being the tops). Assigned to the Colima horizon dating c,100-300AD, it suffers a bruised nose and a rim that is missing a couple of chunks with some glue to hold another in place...

This approximately 15” x 26” rectangular textile fragment (FP1366B) is attributed to the Chancay horizon of Peru dating c.1100-1400AD. In fair to very good condition, depending upon which part of the fabric you’re viewing, the eight bordered panels making up the fragment are each centered with a fan-tailed bird that may represent a pelican, or some other shore bird. The textile is sewn onto brown paper backing...

This fascinating Pre-Columbian bead necklace (111.5HD), made up of beads found in the north coast of Peru and assembled by the Orlandini Museum that operated in Lima during the mid-20th century (their descriptive paper on others from the collection is dated August 1955), is probably Moche in origin, c.100-800AD. From the collection of Lorenzo Fritz, it was purchased by him in the US decades ago and recently entered our inventory due to a trade...

Found in Western Afghanistan during the Russian occupation, each of the seals is in very good condition and can be easily set in a contemporary mount. Attributed to the Sassanian Empire, c.300-600AD, the seals represent truly amazing examples of the ancient gem cutter’s skill...

Aside for the overall quality and frequent uniqueness of the artifacts and relics from the Dr. Allen Heflin collection, it’s difficult not to to rank its next most important feature as the extreme care practiced by Heflin in documenting the provenance of almost every one of his approximately 10,000 treasured items. Not all of them were large, or impressive, or complete, or of museum quality, and many were simply the fragments and parts from ritually broken offerings to ancient gods, or pieces ...
