Made from hammered sheet gold testing at approximately 18K using calibrated needle and acids from a jeweler’s gold testing kit, the ornaments were formed by stone-cutting them out of the relatively thin alloyed precious metal. The ornaments in this interesting group are similar, but none are identical...

This group illustrates seven glass bead necklaces that appear to be from the Old World (JEP 202, 206, 208, 212, 216, 224 and 225), one group of 9 probably Indian made clay beads (JEP 223), and the last with two large African amber beads (JEP 227). Here's the last of the five points we have on consignment from the Rhonda Beck collection (RXB16). Although an attached tag has the notation "Cobb's" (and the inked words "Pope Co ILL" on the side of the blade itself), I believe this is an un-notched pre-form of the Tennessee River type due to the absence of the Cobb's characteristically beveled edges. The Tennessee River is an Early Archaic point dating c.7000-4000BC...

Dating into the 1960s, this sweet cultured pearl and diamond evening ring (MAJP4) measures 7 ½ on a jeweler’s ring mandrel, and justifiably whispers to be worn. The eight well matched, 2.5mm pearls, with nacre intact, are set in the open loops of two intertwined ropes of gold. This massive, 18” tall male figurine (BB14) rests a large ball against his right shoulder while holding it in his cupped right hand. Intently staring ahead in preparation to throw the ball, he is decorated with elaborate ear ornaments, a nose ring, and a band around his neck representing a necklace. Standing naked, his powerful body striped with what probably represents tattooing, and with plaited hair, the figure is attributed to the Nayarit horizon of west Mexico dating c.300BC-300AD. The third great point (RXB.1) from the Rhonda Beck collection, this is a 4 1/2" long x 1 1/8" wide Agate Basin point in top condition. Dating into the Transitional Paleo to the Early Archaic Period, c.10,500-8000 B.P., it comes without specific provenance, but the stone type has been identified as High Ridge Burlington Chert by well known authenticator Calvin Howard. A stunning example of early man's stone knapping ability, it is presented in a Riker-style frame and comes with Howard's certifica...

Unmistakably of the Sinu style, this matched pair of heavy gold earrings (103.42HD) is from the Gulf of Uruba area of Colombia and dates c.400-1600AD. Just over 2 ¾” in width and made in Precolumbian times using the cire perdue technique (lost wax casting), the earrings are in overall very good condition (one of them has been slightly bent at a corner and a few of the gold rings are cracked, but without any significant weakening of the piece). This spectacular set could be adapted for contemp...

This 24” long double-stranded necklace (103.53HD) is assembled from mostly Precolumbian silver beads that had to have been found at a single site! In addition to very small and intermediately sized hollow round beads, there are four ½” square hollow silver spacer beads. There are a dozen or so elongated and round greenstone beads (presumably turquoise) balanced alo...
