Battles Collection: Rattles, Shield & Tassel – Group B
This group of moderately priced but very decorative Native American collectibles (MLB 20-22, 26, 27, 29, 30, 37, 42, 43, 47 and 68) is the second (but not the last) listing of 12 individually priced items from the Asa Battles estate. Widely recognized for his western and Native American art, Battles was also an avid and discriminating collector. While much of his large collection was donated to the Historical and Archaeological Museum of Buckeye, Arizona, located in the city of his birth and of which Asa was a charter member, Mrs. Battles graciously allowed HD Enterprises to select some six dozen or so items from the collection to offer in this catalog. Included in this group are several turtle shell rattles, a possible ghost dance rattle, a hide shield patterned after the recognized ‘No Two Horns’ Sioux shield, a pair of matched bone hair tassels that are decorated with late 19th century Indian Head pennies…..and more. With very affordable prices ranging from $35 to $195, and each item shown individually in its own photo group, the unique inventory number (in brackets) is listed first. That is followed by a brief description, our assigned numerical grade between 1-10 based on condition (with 10 being a ‘perfect’ piece), the probable culture and age, some additional descriptive information, and finally the item price. Every piece comes with a small display card, a short biographical sketch about the artist Battles, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. Select or ask any question by referring either to the Trocadero ITEM # or the STOCK # at the top of this page, and ALSO to the specific item’s INVENTORY NUMBER (as shown in brackets on its photo). NOTE: if you would like to view a large number of our various listings, and at the same time limit your browsing time, try our popular ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings that have twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! And if you want to further refine the group, add one or two additional modifiers at the same time such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, etc.’ Any item that has been sold in one of the groups of twelve will be so noted on its own photograph.
