Superb Gold Earrings Set, Tairona, Colombia

Cast from richly colored coppery gold tumbaga, this beautifully matched pair of hollow semi lunar ear ornaments (103.45HD), each with three rows of continuous ring decoration, is attributed to the Tairona horizon of Colombia dating c.1000-1500AD. In excellent condition with no metal loss and only a few minor casting flaws hidden at the base of the ring bands, and measuring 2 at their widest, each of the ornaments has a small piece of carnelian within the hollow interior that must have been placed there to act as a rattle. Fairly light in weight, and easily adaptable for contemporary wear as either earrings or individual pendants, this museum quality, gorgeous example of Precolumbian gold work and jewelry will brighten the eye of any collector. The pair comes with a small display card, a map of Colombia highlighting the Tairona area, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity.
