Horatio Seymour Autograph, Ny Governor 1863-5

From the late 19th to early 20th century autograph collection of Henry Howland of Buffalo, NY, the 8 ¼” x 10 ¾” folded letter (89.652HD) on THE MICHIGAN LAND AND IRON COMPANY stationery reads…”Dear Sir, I am very much obliged to you for your kind attention to my request for information in regard to Ex. Gov. Hunt. Very Truly Yours, Horatio Seymour.” Dated September 30th, 1889 and addressed to “Hon. Henry A. Richmond, Buffalo, N.Y.”, this letter was written by Seymour well after his New York Governorship from 1863-1865. Seymour was the Democratic candidate for President in 1868, losing to General Grant, and was instrumental in overthrowing the Boss Tweed group. In overall good condition with light mounting marks on upper back, one vertical fold passes through signature, some medium foxing along creases, a couple of small smudges, light crinkling along top, and a lightly penciled note at bottom “Governor of N.Y. 1863-1865’’. The page comes in an acid-free sleeve along with a listing of the remaining items from the Howland collection.
