Twelve Pre-columbian Whistles And Ocarinas
Illustrated in the photos associated with this page are twelve different whistles and ocarinas (AXH1265, EJW89, LLL513, LLL515, LLL517, LLL518, LLL524, LLL730R2N1, LLL755Q, LLL923, LLL928H and LLL928R) from the Heflin, Leutze and Langdon collections. The late Lynn Langdon found ten of the twelve in West Mexico in the mid-20th century. Dr. Allen Heflin found one in that area. A Mayan figural whistle from the Leutze collection came from an unknown location in Guatemala. All different and ranging in condition from damaged to perfect, every one of the twelve will produce a whistling noise upon blowing. Each of the photos is noted with first the inventory number of the illustrated piece in brackets followed by a brief description, the area in which it was found or the cultural horizon to which assigned, the country of origin, the estimated age, its greatest dimension in inches, condition, and when appropriate, a note indicating the whistle produces more than a single note…and finally, the price for that given piece. Select or ask any question by first referring to the Trocadero Number on this page, and then the inventory number shown on the given photograph. Any that have been sold will be so-marked on the appropriate photo. A purchase comes with a small display card, a write-up about the collection from which the purchased piece came, a map of Mexico highlighting the general area in which the whistle was found, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. NOTE: if you enjoy this ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’, and would like to see all the different categories that we currently list in our catalog, spell out the word TWELVE in the search box and it will bring them all up.
