This group of twelve, individually priced cameo pins, brooches, and rings (95.233HD; EJW224, 227 and 229; JI491, 547 and 621; MA10, MAJ1, MAJP15, PH2271 and WJF174) are mostly carved from shell. A special brooch was carved from opal and mounted on black onyx. There are two amber ‘reverse’ cameo pieces, one mounted for wear, the other requiring mounting, that were intaglio carved on the bases by a Polish artist, now deceased, with the wonderfully artistic images of young females, Also in this group twelve is a celluloid mourning pin, along with a molded ‘lava’ rock cameo of an angel. When the cameo is mounted in silver or gold, either the fineness of the silver or the karat weight of the gold is given. Any piece not stamped has been tested with a jeweler’s acid kit using calibrated needles and the tested value shown. Each photo shows first the inventory number in brackets, then a description of the material. Next comes the length of the mounting in which the cameo has been mounted (or the cameo itself when not mounted), followed by the metal and jewelry type. Reference to condition, stamping, ring size, and approximate age of the item follows in random fashion. Final note is the price.
