Twelve Egyptian Artifacts, Ex Mitry: Group F
All of the items in this group of twelve individually priced ancient Egyptian artifacts (96.642HD, 96.651HD, 96.653HD, 96.657HD, 96.682HD, 96.782HD, 96.840HD, 96.842HD, 96.899HD, 96.939HD, 96.961HD and JAM58) are from the Philip Mitry collection. Dating from the 12th to the 30th Dynasties, this selection includes scarabs, scaraboids, ring faces, and figures. Some of the pieces have hieroglyphic symbols and some do not. Material varies from carved steatite to faience to paste (an ‘almost’ glass), conditions range from 5-10 and prices range from $75-$175. Mitry was a registered antiquities dealer who owned a shop in Cairo. In the early ‘50s he sold his store, then known as the Anglo-American Bookstore and Antiquities Shop, and moved to the US. HD Enterprises purchased the Mitry collection in 1996 and have sold pieces to museums, jewelry designers, and collectors all over the world. Of particular interest in this group are some inexpensive ring faces that could be easily mounted for use in rings, a number of scaraboids (oval forms without typical beetle heads or other characteristics), amulets, and a scarab with what is believed to be the cartouche of Sebekneferu. If you are looking for a quantity of authentic ancient scarabs, we will have all of the remaining Mitry collection in this catalog over the next several months, so check back often. Each photo shows the top and bottom, or front and back, and is noted with Inventory Number of the item in brackets, followed by a description of the material and the type of amulet, a grade notation in brackets, the age of the artifact, note about any glyphs, a comment about condition, and finally the price. Note that the ruler shown in the photo is in millimeters. Select or ask any question by referring first to the Trocadero Item Number on this page, and then our Inventory Number shown on the given photograph. Any that have been sold will be so-marked on the appropriate photo. A purchase comes with a small display card, information about Mitry and his shop, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. To see all of the scarabs on the site at this time, simply type the single word ‘SCARAB’ into the search box. NOTE: if you enjoy this ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’, and would like to see all the different categories that we currently list, spell out the word TWELVE in the search box and it will bring them all up. It’s a great way to limit your browsing time!
