Twelve Egyptian Artifacts, Ex Mitry: Group T
This is the last group of twelve (96.235HD, 96.266HD, 96.663HD, 96.876HD, 96.976HD, 96.979HD, JAM12, JAM22, JAM38, JAM40, JAM42 and JAM48) from the large Phillip Mitry collection of ancient Egyptian scarabs and artifacts. Dating from the 12th to the 30th Dynasties, this selection includes scarabs, ring faces easily mounted in contemporary rings, button scarabs, a plaque, along with one scarab and one cowroid that still have their original gold bezels attached. Most of the illustrated items have hieroglyphic symbols. Materials include faience, steatite, and jasper. Conditions range from 6-10 and prices range from $300-$2200. Mitry was a registered antiquities dealer who owned a shop in Cairo. In the early ‘50s he sold his store, then known as the Anglo-American Bookstore and Antiquities Shop, and moved to the US. HD Enterprises purchased the Mitry collection in 1996 and have sold pieces to museums, jewelry designers, and collectors all over the world. Of particular interest in this group is the cartouche of Smenkhkare and glyphs representing a winged lion, ape, Feather of Maat, ankh, nefer, ra, Hathor, eye of Horus...and others. If you are looking for a quantity of authentic ancient scarabs, we now have now listed all of the scarabs remaining from the Mitry collection in this catalog. Each photo shows the top and bottom, or front and back, and is noted with Inventory Number of the item in brackets, followed by a description of the material and the type of amulet, a grade notation in brackets, the age of the artifact, note about any glyphs, a comment about condition, and finally the price. Note that the ruler shown in the photo is in millimeters. Select or ask any question by referring first to the Trocadero Item Number on this page, and then our Inventory Number shown on the given photograph. Any that have been sold will be so-marked on the appropriate photo. A purchase comes with a small display card, information about Mitry and his shop, and a certificate guaranteeing authenticity. To see all of the scarabs on the site at this time, simply type the single word ‘SCARAB’ into the search box. NOTE: if you enjoy this ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’, and would like to see all the different categories that we currently list, spell out the word TWELVE in the search box and it will bring them all up. It’s a great way to limit your browsing time!
