|This almost perfect Pre-Columbian polychrome basket (LFG412) is attributed to the Tiahuanacan Period of highland Bolivia, c.400-1200AD. Measuring 6” across, and approximately 3 ½” in height, the four top coils down from the basket’s rim are woven with two different alternating colors of reed in a fashion that defines a simple geometric pattern around the upper part of the body. The basket reed is in overall very good condition with a few areas of light wear, a minor number of non-weakening broken loops, some minor staining, and a few small patches of residual mud. An original quarter-inch thick bundle of wrapped grass on the basket bottom served as a ring base for stability. Rare to find in such good condition, this fine basket comes with a small display card, a map of Bolivia highlighting the Tiahuanacan area, a biographical sketch about the previous owner, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. Select or ask any question by referring either to the Trocadero Item Number at the top of this page, or to our Inventory Number noted at the beginning of this paragraph. NOTE: if you would like to view a large number of our various listings, and at the same time limit your browsing, try our ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings that have twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! And if you want to further refine the group, add one or two additional modifiers at the same time such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, Jewelry, etc.’ Any item that has been sold will be so noted on its photograph.|
