| This 8 ½” long bracelet-like length (LFG299) was assembled from Pre-Columbian inlaid mother-of-pearl zoomorphic beads and spondylous shell discoidal beads, all found in the Viru Valley of northwestern Peru, the site of cultural development dating back into at least the 2nd millennium BC. Originally purchased in the 1950s in Lima, Peru from the Museo Oralandini and noted as item #33 on one of several pages copied from the museum’s catalog, the bracelet is now on consignment and owned by a former research anthropologist and southwestern primitive arts dealer. The five inlaid mother-of-pearl beads, three missing all or most of their greenstone and orange shell discs, represent three different zoomorphic styles: two 7mm floating sea birds; two 13-15mm pesky monkeys; and a 13mm shore bird perched on a platform at the center of the bracelet. Except for the notation that the beads are from the Viru Valley, the cultural horizon is not known. In overall very good condition with some expected but minor corrosion loss along the edges of the mother-of-pearl beads and the aforementioned inlay loss, the bracelet is presented in a 6” x 8” glass-fronted collector’s frame and comes with the pages copied from the museum catalog, a map of Peru highlighting the Viru Valley, a biographical sketch about the current owner, and our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. Select or ask any question by referring either to the Trocadero Item Number at the top of this page, or to our Inventory noted in brackets at the beginning of this paragraph. NOTE: if you would like to view a large number of our various listings, and at the same time limit your browsing, try our ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’ by simply spelling out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings that have twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! And if you want to further refine the group, add one or two additional modifiers at the same time such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, Jewelry, etc.’ Any item that has been sold will be so noted on its photograph. | |||||||||||||
