SUPERB ANCIENT GREEK STATER: PEGASUS & ATHENA

Almost as though struck yesterday, this beautiful example of an ancient Greek silver stater depicting Pegasus and Athena (MAP 165) has only a few light surface scratches and a small amount of oxidation preventing the word ‘perfect’ from being freely applied. Purchased through a Harlan J. Berk auction by our discriminating consigner, the original Berk coin holder describes this as being from Corinth and dating into the 5th Period, 345-307 BC. Additionally, Berk’s card references the stater to Calciati-420 and CC24669. On the obverse side, the sleek winged horse faces left, while on the reverse, behind the impressively helmeted head of Athena appears the diminutive figure of Nike holding a tainia (ribbon). The composite photo has a millimeter rule on its left side for scale, and information concerning the coin appears below it in the text block. Select or ask any question by referring either to the Trocadero Item Number noted in the upper left portion of this page, or to our unique Inventory Number, MAP 165. The coin comes with our certificate guaranteeing authenticity. NOTE: if you would like to browse our ‘TWELVE different items on a single page format’, and examine all the different categories that we currently group list in our catalog, your can do so by spelling out the single word TWELVE in the search box. It’s a great way to limit your browsing time while looking at a whole bunch of well displayed ‘stuff’! And if you want to further refine the group, add one or two additional modifiers with the TWELVE such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, Coin, etc.’ Any item that has been sold will be so noted on its photograph.
