|The Clyde Pharr consignment is made up of mostly ancient Greek and Roman coins, a lesser number of Byzantine coins, a few groups of antiquities, and a handful of middle age and historic coins. The collection is offered for rapid review on nine pages using our browser efficient and popular ‘Group of Twelve’ format where each of the twelve items on one page is priced individually on its own descriptive photo. Some of the coins are attributed, some are not. Most are single coins, some are offered in variously sized groups that would make interesting and inexpensive gifts for beginning and youthful collectors. All of the groups of twelve containing the Pharr collection can be viewed together by placing the single word ROW in the search link at the top of any page in our catalog. The page you are now viewing contains an assortment (ROW 1005, 1023, 1028, 1034, 1036, 1043, 1045, 1048, 1065, 1079B, 1080F and 1085) consisting of ancient Greek and Roman coins, a few Egyptian coins, a Byzantine coin, and a group of relics. Each item or lot comes with our certificate of authenticity and a copy of the noted Pharr’s biography published in the Class Notes section of the Vanderbilt Alumnus during the summer of 1973. Pharr graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Yale with a PhD in the early 20th century. He retired as Professor Emeritus of Latin and Greek from Vanderbilt in 1950 where he taught for 26 years, after also teaching at Ohio Wesleyan and Southern Presbyterian. A student of archaeology, a Fellow of the American Institute of Archaeology and then an American Field Service Fellow, he also studied at the Universities of Paris and Berlin, and did archaeological research in Athens, Greece where many of his collection pieces were found and otherwise acquired. The Vanderbilt biography of Pharr’s life accomplishments as an author will add to the pleasure of acquiring a piece from this fascinating gent’s collection. Select or ask any question by referring either to the Trocadero ITEM # or the STOCK # at the top of this page, and ALSO to the item’s INVENTORY NUMBER as shown in the brackets on its photo. NOTE: if you would like to view our many other varied groups of twelve, simply spell out the word TWELVE in the search box. That will quickly bring up all of our listings with twelve different items on a page, each individually priced! And if you want to further refine the search, add one or two additional modifiers to the TWELVE at the same time such as ‘Indian, Precolumbian, Stone, Pot, Gold, etc.’ Any item that has been sold will be so noted on its photograph.|
