José Ramón Lerma, an abstract artist from the Salinas Valley, was the first Chicano artist to attend a formal art school. Key member of the Beat art scene in San Francisco in the early 60's with many solo exhibitions at seminal gallery spaces. Lerma has shown at Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Albuquerque, Oakland Museum, The San Francisco Museum of Art, and on.
