TONALA BURNISHED POTTERY VASE Green Feathered Design

Extraordinary burnished urn with exotic birds design. This feathered designs were only made for a short period of time in the 1930s and 40s. Rare metallic green base color decorated with rich colors. The metallic paints were not used frequently because of it's high cost. Also known as "earthenware of water", this burnished ceramic ware is the most famous, not only for its decorations and splendid burnish, attained by rubbing the surface with a piece of pyrite, but also for the flavor, fragance and freshness of the liquids contained. For this reason this pieces were locally known as "barro de olor" (scented clay). Very good condition. The vase measures 13.5 inches tall and 28" circumference at the widest part.
