TONALA BURNISHED POTTERY VASE Black Feathered Design
Extraordinary burnished urn with exotic birds design. This feathered designs were only made for a short period of time in the 1930s and 40s. Rare black base color decorated in red, white and yellow. Also known as "earthenware of water", this burnished ceramic ware is the most famous, not only for its decorations and splendid burnish, attained by rubbing the surface with a piece of pyrite, but also for the flavor, fragance and freshness of the liquids contained. For this reason this pieces were locally known as "barro de olor" (scented clay). Very good condition. The vase measures 8-1/2" inches tall and 21-1/2" circumference at the widest part.
