TONALA BURNISHED POTTERY VASE Yellow Feathered Design

Beautiful burnished urn with exotic birds design. This feathered designs were only made in Tonala for a short period of time in the 1930s and 40s. White base color decorated in yellow. Also known as "earthenware of water", this burnished ceramic ware is the most famous, not only for its decorations and splendid burnish, attained by rubbing the surface with a piece of pyrite, but also for the flavor, fragance and freshness of the liquids contained. For this reason this pieces were locally known as "barro de olor" (scented clay). Very good condition. The vase measures 11" inches tall and 24" circumference at the widest part.
