| Fabulous and elegant pair of bracelets by Hattie Carnegie from the estate of New York's most fashionable D.D. Ryan. Made with six large domed emerald green glass oval cabochons surrounded by individually hand prong set paste diamond rhinestones and ruby red cabochons around the rhinestones. Between each group and accenting the piece are diamond rhinestones, emerald glass drops and ruby red rhinestones. The clasp is ornamented with three white rhinestones. Both bracelets are in excellent vintage condition with a couple of spots with slight gold wear on the back. Each one measures 7 1/2" by 1 1/2" wide. D.D. Ryan, born Dorinda Prest Dixon in Bristol, Rhode Island in 1928. She spent the second half of the twenty century at the epicenter of the New York Literary, Art, Fashion and Theatre world. She began her career in her early 20's as an assistant to well known photographer Richard Avedon. In the 1970s, Ms. Ryan was an assistant to Roy Halston Frowick, known as Halston. At that time, his signature long dresses were popular at discotheques and nightclubs like Studio 54, which Ms. Ryan frequented. Ryan is also known for working as a Harper's Bazaar photo editor under the renowned editor Diana Vreeland, designing the costumes for Stephen Sondheim's 1970 Broadway musical "Company" and hanging out with the likes of Cole Porter, Andy Warhol and Truman Capote. | ||||||||||
