Beautiful very early Mexican Sterling silver repousse sombrero.

Wonderful untouched original very dark patina.

Circa 1920s- 30s.

This is a very good example of the fabulous repousse work that was done by the Mexico city silversmiths even before of the Taxco silver boom in the first third of the 20th century.

Signed: "SG", also marked "Sterling Hecho en Mexico 0925"

Beautiful traditional carved flower design.

The crown of the sombrero also depicts a Mexican eagle devouring a snake standing on a cactus, under the eagle it's carved the word "Viva Mexico".

A silver rope wraps around the base of the crown. The rim is also adorned with the same rope design.

Measurements: 5 1/2" diameter by 2 3/4" tall.

Weight: 2.2 ounces (66 grams)

Very good vintage condition.
