Beautiful and finely hand woven wool and cotton Mexican serape blanket in very good condition. This Saltillo is predominantly greenish- gray with a large and perfect multi colored center diamond design known as the "Ojo de Dios" (The Eye of God.) These Zarapes, or blankets, were made in different parts of Mexico, the city of Saltillo in the state of Coahuila being the most famous . Because of this, these weavings are most commonly known as "Saltillos". Originally symbols of wealth and prestige, Saltillos eventually became an important symbol of Mexican independence. Fiber: Wool and Cotton No fringe. Old repair of three small holes near the diamond. Dimensions: Height: 90" Width: 43" AS WITH ALL ANTIQUE WOOL TEXTILES, OLD SARAPES ARE NEVER "PERFECT". YOU CAN ALWAYS EXPECT MINOR MOTH DAMAGE OR FADING OR FRINGE WEAR OR BLEEDING OR AREAS OF THINNING OR SOMETHING. WE ALWAYS TRY TO DESCRIBE ANY MAJOR DAMAGE. |
