| We have a colorful lidded jar made of lacquered wood decorated with brightly painted polo players. This jar dates to the mid 1900's and is from India, I was told. It is in very good condition with no paint loss and minimal areas where the lacquer has dulled or rubbed off. It measures around 5 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall. The exact origin of polo, the oldest team sport, is unknown. Polo was probably first played by nomadic warriors over two thousand years ago. We do know that it was played throughout the middle and far East and there is a large variety of art objects, such as this lidded jar, that pay homage to its history in that region. | ||
