Framed Fox Hunt Map, England 1843, Hoar Cross Hunt
This is a map entitled "Places of Meeting of the Hoar Cross Hunt". It is a lovely old original map with hand tinting on age toned paper and prominent fold lines. According to my research this map was created by John Dower circa 1843. The area encompasses Staffordshire, Derbyshire, and Leicestershire counties. It is housed in a period birdseye maple frame that measures 17.5 X 15.5 inches. The actual map measures around 9 X 7 inches. Here is some history of the Hoar Cross Hunt (taken from the Meynell and Staffordshire Hunt history website, UK): "The history of the Meynell & South Staffordshire Hunt can be traced back to 1793 and the Vernon family from Sudbury, in Derbyshire. Lord Vernon died in 1813 and the Meynell family took over the hounds, changing the name from Sudbury Hunt to Hoar Cross Hunt. In 1872 the present kennels were built at Sudbury and it became a subscription pack called the Meynell Hunt. It wasn't until 1970 that the name changed again, when the Meynell amalgamated with the South Staffordshire. It is very doubtful if any kennels in England are more architecturally beautiful than those from which the Meynell Hounds first issued on Thursday, November 13th 1873." Original price was $495.
