| This is an unusual ladies compact, brass with a gilt wash, and decorated with painted vignettes of fox hunting scenes. It measures 3 X 3 inches and is in good condition, with only some surface scratches and wear to the gilt surface. We think this piece dates to the 1930-40 era and is marked 'Made in England'. The clasp and hinge are tight and secure and there is a small bit of powder remaining in the powder chamber. The mirror is missing but could be easily replaced. These are sometimes used to hold business cards or other such items. This is a very attractive and well-made compact, and would be an excellent gift for a fox hunter. Original price was $300. | ||
