Oil on Canvas, Pair of Terriers, England 1800's
This is a very handsome, well rendered oil on canvas of a pair of terriers- a Jack Russell and an Irish terrier. It is not signed, but was attributed to the very famous Scottish animal artist Colin Graeme Roe (1855-1910), who was known for painting dogs and horses. His auction records run into the thousands, but since this is unsigned, and has a spot of poor restoration, this painting is on sale for much less. It is in a frame made of new burled walnut moulding that measures 16 X 14 inches. There is a fair amount of craquelure of the surface paint. There is an area of poor repainting that extends about 2 inches below the brown terrier's eye and a spot of missing paint on his shoulder that measures less than an inch in size. Both of these flaws are easily seen in the photos. Original price was $1,995.
