| This is an unusual, very early humidor, or perhaps tea caddy, from England or Scotland, dating to the early 1800's, or perhaps the late 1700's. The metal part of the canister has darkened and rusted quite a bit, which is obvious especially on the inside. The outside was completely covered in leather, but it has worn through in places, revealing the darkened metal underneath. Overall, the patina is very warm and rich. There is a brass plate on which an ornate monogram was engraved, but which is now almost totally rubbed out, which gives you an idea of how old this piece is. There were once handles on either side, according to empty holes, which are hardly noticeable. The lid is very worn and rusty, but I rarely use it, instead I prefer to use this as a planter for ivy or a fern. This interesting humidor is around 6 inches tall and almost 5 inches across at the top. | ||
